Hello everyone! And welcome to Your English Update, a podcast by EZOnlineEnglish.

We wanted to make a lesson with some useful bank expressions for all of you! We all know how important it is to be able to communicate with your bank, so this lesson is actually part one of three! Yes, we will be covering three different topics all related to money, and today’s lesson is about online banking. These expressions are ones that you’ll likely see when you're logging into your banking and credit card apps. Are you ready? Let’s get going!

Insufficient Funds. Check your available balance.

资金不足。请检查您的可用余额。

We’re starting off with an important one here! This expression means you do not have enough money in your account to make a transaction. You could see this expression while trying to pay for something or as a notification from your bank. If you do see this, you’ll either have to transfer money into your account, choose a different payment option, or wait until you get your next paycheck!

The minimum payment due is $35.00.

最低付款额为35美元。

So for the American credit system, you can pay your credit card bills slowly or quickly. However, you are required to pay a minimum amount every month in order to avoid a penalty. Of course you should pay more to pay it all off quickly, but sometimes that’s just not possible. Therefore, the minimum payment is the lowest amount that you’re allowed to pay on a credit card for that month.

Make a transfer to checking account ending in 1871.

转账到尾号为1871的支票账户。

You will usually see this kind of expression when you are confirming a transfer between your accounts. For example, if I am transferring money from my savings to my checking account, the bank may confirm this transfer by giving me an expression like this. And for privacy, you will usually see only the last 4 digits of your account number instead of the full number.

Your payment is scheduled for Friday April 30th.

您的付款计划为4月30日星期五。

When you pay your credit card or for a utility service like power or water, sometimes it doesn’t process your payment until the next business day. In this case, your bank may provide you with an expression like this confirming the date of the payment. They may also use verbiage such as this, “please allow one to two business days to process.”

Set up auto-payment options.

设置自动付款选项。

Auto-payment is exactly what it sounds like. It is an automatic transfer or payment that you authorize to occur monthly, kind of like a subscription. Some services like credit cards, utility companies, or mortgage companies will allow you to set up an auto-pay option online. If you see the words “set up,” then it means you will need to input your account information and authorize the recurring payment.

I wonder if you have seen all of these expressions before? Let’s quickly review them before we go.
