Publisher's Summary:
Losing our parents when we ourselves are adults is the natural order of things, a rite of passage into true adulthood. But whether or not we have expected the death of our parents after a prolonged illness, were close to or alienated from them, this passage is inevitably harder than we thought it would be.
A much needed and knowing discussion of this adult phenomenon, The Orphaned Adult validates the wide array of disorienting emotions that can accompany the death of our parents by sharing both the author's heart-felt experience of loss and the moving stories of countless adults who have shared their losses with him.
From the recognition of our own mortality and sudden child-like sorrow to a sometimes-subtle change in identity or shift of roles in the surviving family, The Orphaned Adult guides listeners through the storm of change this passage brings and anchors them with its compassionate and reassuring wisdom.

Great book for those adult children who both parents have passed away. You can truly relate both emotionally and psychologically from this terrific author and book! Highly Recommend!

This book really helped me
My mom died 2 months ago and this book was recommended. I really liked how the author seemed to be telling my story and now my grieving doesn't seem so scary.

Good book
Very good book. Helping me to understand the feelings of loss and loneliness after my elderly parents died. This book has put my feelings into words. Glad I read it

Beautifully written, exceptionally helpful.
This is a beautifully written book which describes the difficult process of losing a parent, and helps to explain why this particular loss is unique. Dr. Levy's writing style is clear and comfortable, and his own personal experiences add to the depth of the book. I found this immensely helpful and have read it multiple times. It is exceptional.

The Orphaned Adult:Understanding and Coping with Grief and Change After the Death of Our Parents
The book was very well written and extremely easy to read. I bought it for my nephew who's father recently died from complications of cancer. Although my nephew was smart enough to go for grief counseling, he was still not settled nor seemed okay with his new status. I read the book before I forwarded it to him and I wish I had had it when my parents passed over twenty years ago. It would have been extremely helpful to me. My nephew reports that he "loves" the book, so I am assuming it is as helpful as I had hoped. I would recommend it to anyone suffering the loss of one or both parents. It has very practical and sensible suggestions on how to cope, move on, and resume ones life after such a loss.
