Why Balance is a Myth

Why Balance is a Myth

2023-02-0224:26

Is finding balance in life really the end-all-be-all? Tune into this week's episode as I share a new perspective around finding balance, and why it's not what we should be trying to achieve. Life is about finding harmony, rhythm, and adjusting our sails day to day, week to week, season to season. Sometimes we have to lean harder into parts of life and that is okay! My hope is that we can leave the whole balance thing at the curb. Because when we're trying to balance it all, we feel spread too thin, overwhelmed, less than, unfulfilled, and we are not as productive or successful! I hope you take a few things with you and feel a shift happen within as you navigate the rest of your week. What matters most right now? What does success look like to you? Where do you need to lean into right now?  Life begins with us. We have more control than we think. Our whole self matters, all of the time, and it's time start to make small micro-shifts to truly step into a life of less stress and more happiness. Let's Connect!Follow over on Instagram: @ourmindfulwayGrab my favorite tools over at  http://www.ourmindfulway.com

Are you in control of what happens in your life? Or are you letting life happen to you? This week, I am walking you through exactly how I set up my week.I used to only look forward to Fridays and fumble through the rest of the days, but now, at the start of each week, I set intentions and choices around what matters most. Daily walks? Important to me. A play date wedged into a busy day? Not so much.Today’s episode is inspired by something I do and I’m hoping this will be an episode you can refer to again and again. It’s so easy to let life happen TO you. It will leave you feeling more aligned, more connected, and bring more joy and peace into your busy week. I promise, you have time to make an intention. When we make intentions, we are telling our brain that something is important. How do you want your week to go? How do you want your week to FEEL? Sensory overload is a very real thing in parenthood. A loving and fun house can also have a lot of noise and chaos. It’s easy to become overstimulated and overwhelmed. Larissa Geleris, licensed occupational therapist, explains why this happens to us.How often have you heard “overstimulated” in connection with kids’ behaviors? Did you know that parents can also be overstimulated, bombarded with sensory overload, and susceptible to triggers that lead to self-incrimination and poor self-esteem?In today’s episode, I have a conversation with Larissa from Steady Parents about being more steady in the face of the noise,  daily demands, and the wild inconsistencies of child-rearing. Because let’s face it: we don’t all have go-with-the-flow personalities, and there are times we need some support!Larissa shares practical, sustainable strategies for coping with the sensory demands of family life. Through mindful practice, we can develop more appropriate responses to what triggers us. It is validating to know that we ALL have different sensory thresholds; for every parent, this episode is valuable self-care that will immediately impact your family in a positive way. As a special education teacher, I never took lunch. Ever. It was typical of me to put my students’ and own kids’ needs above my own, and it wasn’t unusual for me to realize at 4 pm that I hadn’t eaten or even finished my coffee. Like many overstretched women, I hit the ground running each day, and I didn’t power down until my battery was depleted. In this first episode of Our Mindful Way podcast, I introduce myself and share a little bit about my own transformation through mindfulness, what mindfulness actually is, and so much more.I’m so excited to share mindfulness with you. For any woman who has felt overwhelmed, burnt out, exhausted, the mission of my podcast will be to make mindfulness accessible to you, focusing on providing tips and tools to help you create a life to love and enjoy.
