On this episode of The Simple Sexy Marketing Podcast, Stephanie is joined by Electra Harris, owner and founder of Mysteek Naturals, a hair color company that offers dye without the harsh chemicals.

Electra explains her driving passion stemmed from the people who needed the product she created. The invention came from a desire from her to dye her hair, but last time her hair fell out. She experimented for months until she finally found a solution which worked for her. When people in her circle noticed, she shared with them the product and eventually started selling it. 

Electra talks about how she worked a 9-5 job in her first year as an entrepreneur and she viewed it as her investor. When she’d come home, she would work on her own business and got her kids to stop her at a certain time. Also in that first year she tried to promote the brand in many different ways, such as tradeshows, podcasts and media work in general, as well as moving into e-commerce. 

One of the main things she learnt from her first year as an entrepreneur is that seasons are so important and that you need to look at trends and stay on top of what’s trending. 

Coming towards the end of the podcast, Electra shared a few things anyone who is starting a product based business: a customer service system, automations, a program to help you keep up with your numbers – particularly inventory, learn your audience and the need to constantly learn, and she goes into detail on each one of these.
