(2/2) People will do anything out of desperation - not because they're uninformed or uneducated, but because they're vulnerable. And it's much easier to manipulate someone when they're vulnerable. When people feel backed into a corner, they'll jump at the first sign of a deus machina. Symbolically, it's like making a deal with the devil. So, be careful with the rhetoric of 'how could anyone believe this'.
(1/2) Keep in mind you are talking from a place of privilege. Marketing scams & logical fallacies are obvious to us so we're able to laugh it off. However, the insidiousness of the wellness industry is that it preys on desperation. We all know the US Healthcare system prioritizes profits over health. There are thousands of patients who cannot afford the medical treatments they need for a debilitating condition/illness/disease.
The hosts are passionate but it would behoove them to let their guest talk more and use their studied expertise to educate the public.
