Just when you think it couldn’t get any worse. David had just passed the biggest test so far of his leadership at Ziklag. God had enabled him to keep himself and his men together after their long march, the discovery of their burnt-out homes and absent families, potential mutiny, followed by a 24-hour battle to rescue everything. God answered his prayers and strengthened him.

Now came more hard news. But this time he could not retrieve someone he loved, and who loved him. We looked at their relationship in an earlier chapter. A soul mate…gone.
