Movement is Emotional
Description
In this episode of The Curious Midlife Podcast, Dr. Julie Angel talks about how movement and training is emotional yet people rarely think of it in those terms. She also talks about how our emotions around and about movement affects everything that we do in life and tells us how to pull ourselves together and use it to our advantage.
Emotional Movement
[1:14 ]
Many people either ignore or are not aware of the idea that movement is emotional. These feelings control our behavior, both actively and passively. For many people, the main factor preventing them from moving is how we think about moving.
Cold Starts
[2:11 ]
Although movement breeds movement, not all movement is equal. In comparison to how you move when you are already invigorated, how we move when we are fatigued to re-energize oneself is extremely different or might be very different. We frequently assume that we already have the energy to move when we think about moving. A cold start is what is referred to as such.
Baseline
[5:48 ]
Our movement patterns don't reflect who we are at our most basic whether we're warmed up or on a good day. The majority of the time, our baseline is what defines how effectively or poorly we perform various tasks.
Consistency and Sustainability
[7:24 ]
Your movement practice's consistency and longevity will ultimately depend on how you approach it, how you think about it, and what decisions you made in the past. Those are the two main factors that will help you advance in your movement trip and live a long time.
Change
[12:28 ]
Change is difficult because it requires more effort than maintaining the current quo, whether you are overtrained or undertrained. Therefore, how we move, what we choose to do that is sustainable, what we can do that is creative, and what will feed us will all depend on how we think about our movement. Additionally, we frequently still seek out immediate pleasure. You never got to the situation you were in overnight. Therefore, it is unlikely that a solution will materialise quickly.
