Description

Following her crowning as the 1st Miss Waterhouse, Miss Gapour in one of her first interview with Empress Skortcher spoke passionately about the cries from youths in Jamaica that there are "not enough jobs" as she offers viable solutions.

She stated, "We as the young and coming, they should have persons there to properly monitor us in the career choices we are choosing. We should forget about becoming lawyers, and teachers and doctors, not that it's a bad job to have, but because there are other areas that are in demand. She added "that's how you're going to see the money coming in." In voicing her opinion she referenced a newspaper article a few years ago in which it was suggested that, "Jamaica don't need any more lawyers." Miss Gapour reiterated, "You need to be trained properly for the jobs that are in demand now in Jamaica." She later disclosed that her initial ambition was to become a lawyer but was swayed after reading that article and analyzed the value of training to entering into a in-demand field. On completion of university, Shante Gapour's career aspiration is to follow in the footsteps of her role model, the Honorable Lisa Hanna, who in 2012 was appointed as Jamaica's Minister of Youth and Culture and who continues to serve in that role.
