A big challenge for manufacturers of industrial products is to tailor specific products to individual customer demands and at the same time keeping production cost-efficient and profitable. For this purpose adaptable production systems have been developed. But if adaptable production systems are to be successful the production planning systems need to be adaptable too, says Hakan Akillioglu, researcher at KTH in the field Technologies for Adaptable Production. His solution is called Demand Responsive Planning.
