Ep10 Simone McLaughlin, Jobs Shared - Job sharing made easy - Flex @ Work
Update: 2016-06-15
Description
Workplace Flexibility – Thought Leaders
Published 16 June 2016
Simone McLaughlin created www.JobsShared.com.au to resolve the conflict between her need to work part time, and her bosses need to have full time coverage. She decided to share her job but was frustrated that she could not find other people that wanted to job share – even though she knew there were many other professionals just like her out there.
Job sharing is essentially two people sharing one full-time position
Simone says that three key elements are needed for a successful job share arrangement:
Sharing
Coverage
Management Support
Simone gave us two sets of Top 3 tips for a successful job share arrangement:
For job seekers and employees:
* Start looking for a job share partner early
* Always meet your potential job share partner face to face
* Look for complimentary skills
For employers:
* Give it a go for at least 12 months to see what you get from it
* Ensure consistency of job share agreements across the organisation
* Be prepared to give the job share team some time to find their rhythm
This interview is a great introduction to the concept of job sharing. If you want to know more and want to get started, Flex Able Jobs and BP Women’s International Network are hosting a talk on 22 July 2016 in Brisbane called ‘Job sharing for professionals: Does it really work?‘
Register yourself at www.JobsShared.com.au if you are ready to join the job sharing revolution.
