OFA022: Jeromy and Jennifer Deibler, Part 2
Description
Dave interviews Jeromy and Jennifer Deibler in part 2 of 2. They lead the Christian band Far From Home, and Jeromy also is the worship pastor at Dave’s home church, Journey Christian Church, of Irvine, California. I was in their home recently chatting with them, and what you’ll hear on this episode is the second of two parts of that chat.
The Deiblers have been married for almost 19 years, and been singing together in FFH since 1997. They have two children, 10 and 6 years old.
In 2006-7 they lived in South Africa but most of the time it has been in Franklin, Tenn. In fact, in 2010, the lost everything in a major flood in that area.
They have gone through counseling even when things are good.
In 2007 Jeromy was diagnosed with MS, but it took a year and a half to figure that out.
They discovered Road life doesn’t work with a family, so they’ve really cut back.
Marriage (and life) Wisdom
- How do you keep your marriage fresh on the road? The question is, well, how do you keep it fresh at home?
- What does your spouse need the most? To be the best possible version of yourself. Creating an environment like that is a great gift you can give to others.
- The gift of going thru all of their struggles is friendship with each other
- We don’t become friends with people because we like them, it is because we like who we become when when we’re with them.
- Being present in every moment requires truth. Start from scratch every day.
- We fellowship with each other in our brokenness
- You need to be big enough and strong enough so that when someone feels vulnerable with you, you won’t collapse because you can’t take the truth, and you won’t try to fix it – you’ll HOLD that space for them. It’s hard to do, but it’s possible. You don’t hold the person’s crap, but you’re WITH them. Jesus is God WITH us, not God FIX us.
Best Marriage Advice Ever received
- Be honest even if it hurts your mate. They need that.
- Don’t make pursuing justice your goal. Do I want to be right or be loved?
Favorite date night
- Movies and just hanging, and the beach
What they wish they knew then what they know now
- Use the money for an expensive wedding on something else
Best Parting Advice
- Stay awake, try to find the thing you’re not seeing
- Don’t be afraid of counseling
- Don’t wait too long to have kids!
