Wayne and Ruby Grebel have been married 64 years (will be 65 on Sept 9)Married 65 years, high school sweethearts

Back then, didn’t have any info about marriage, started out knowing nothing, but have been blessed with many wonderful people.

3 children, Sandra, 62, lives in Redding. Randy lives in Wisconsin, he’s 59, and Darren lives in Victorville, he’s 49. They have four grandkids they’re very proud of.

They did a big celebration at 50 years so 65 will not be a big celebration. Because anything they do cannot compare to their life together. Awesome!

Three attitudes/actions they’ve taken to allow their marriage to thrive:

1. Commitment to each other, doing things together, such as nursing each other through health challenges. They bowled together, and Ruby took up the game of golf which Wayne loved and they both enjoyed it, doing things together. She took it up to do something together, and she ended up really enjoying it. They always have done things together.

2. Always go back to why you married each other.

3. They waited a few years before they got married.

Best Marriage Advice:

• Take care of the one you got at home and you won’t have any problems.


• Maintain a relationship with your husband (or wife) so that when the children leave the house, or you retire, you can have a relationship.

What is one thing you know now that you wish you had known before you got married?

• It’s been so long, they don’t remember!

Best Parting Advice

• Take each day and make the most you can of it, because time passes too fast.


• Thank the Lord for each day he’s given you and be content with it.

Other advice

• Very emotionally, Ruby talks about she didn’t appreciate her mother as much as she wanted. How that would look today would be to tell her mom a lot more how much she really did appreciate her.


• They never lost the reason why they got married: it’s because they love each other.
