ARE YOU AN INTROVERT?
Update: 2018-04-27
Description
This episode of the podcast I am talking all about BEING INTROVERTED. I discuss what does it mean to be an introvert, what it is like, and how can we overcome this if we choose to.
I start off this episode by sharing a little bit of my own story. I speak about sometimes feeling ashamed of being introverted and wishing that I was more extraverted. An important point to remember is that both these terms are just LABELS. They don't define who you are. So whichever category you fall into, I don't think you need to worry about it. There are positives and negatives to both personality types and most people will be a mixture of the two.
What are the definitions:
Introverted people: generally depleted by social situations
Extraverted people: feel more energised by social interaction
Famous people who are introverts:
beyonce, michael jackson, julia roberts, elon musk, valamir putin, (just to name a few)
I explain where all of this comes from.. It was Carl Yung (father of analytical psychology) who developed the concept of introversion and extraversion.
I ask the question, can it be this black and white? or is there a grey area?
The website to find out what your personality type is and whether you are more introverted or extraverted : https://www.16personalities.com
How to overcome being introverted?
- awareness is the first step
- know that one is not superior to the other
- accept who you are
- give yourself time to be alone to recharge (if you know this is what you need)
- fake it until you make it… fake confidence, enthusiasm and loudness if that is who you want to be.
- don’t be hard on yourself, whoever you are and whatever your personality, love yourself regardless.
CONCLUSION:
1. being introverted or extraverted is just how we interact with our surroundings, it does not define who we are and it will not limit us in any way
2. being introverted doesn't mean we are a loner, or shy, or awkward.. often people won't even be able to tell that you are introverted. and you definitely should not be ashamed of who you are
3. you have two choices, you can accept who you are and then you can improve your limitations
Thank you everyone for listening to this episode. I am super grateful to you all. I hope this has been helpful in any way, please let me know! Also if you have time please rate and review this podcast as that is really helpful for me! Speak to you all next time, Much love
