174. וְאָמַר רַבִּי אַבָּא, עוֹד יֵשׁ לָדַעַת, שֶׁשָּׁנִינוּ, אוֹתָם הַמִּתְעַסְּקִים לָדַעַת אֶת בּוֹרְאָם בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה וְנִשְׁמָתָם בְּתַשְׁלוּמָהּ לָעוֹלָם הַבָּא, זָכוּ לָצֵאת מִשְּׁבוּעוֹת הַנְּשָׁמָה, הוֹלֵךְ לָדַעַת מִי הוּא גוּפָהּ מַמָּשׁ וּמַה הוּא. הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי נִצָּב עַל עֵין הַמָּיִם, אַף עַל גַּב שֶׁתַּלְמִיד חָכָם הוּא, הוֹלֵךְ אַחַר הַתַּשְׁלוּם, שֶׁכָּתוּב וְהָיָה הָעַלְמָה הַיֹּצֵאת לִשְׁאֹב וְאָמַרְתִּי אֵלֶיהָ הַשְׁקִינִי נָא מְעַט מַיִם מִכַּדֵּךְ – אֱמֹר לִי רֶמֶז יְדִיעָתוֹ מִמַּה שֶּׁהִשַּׂגְתָּ.

Rabbi Abba said: “לְעֵת עֶרֶב”, “At the time of evening” (Genesis 24:11 ). This is the sixth day, which is the eve of Shabbat, for then is the time to revive the dead. And he asks: What is the meaning of these words? And he says: For we have learned that the world stands for six thousand years, and the eve of Shabbat is the sixth millennium. Which is the end of all, and this is “לְעֵת עֶרֶב”, “at the time of evening,” whose meaning is the time of the end of all. “לְעֵת צֵאת הַשֹּׁאֲבוֹת”, “at the time the water-drawers go out” (Genesis 24:11 ), these are the Torah scholars who draw from the waters of Torah. Which is the time to go out and shake off the dust, that is, to rise for resurrection.
Notes:
Torah scholars, drawing Torah’s waters (Mochin, Chokhmah), rise first, shaking off dust. They have merit for resurrection, for their Torah study that represents the union of Zeir Anpin and Malchut.

Rabbi Abba said: There is still to know, for we have learned, those who engage to know their Master in this world, and their soul is in its completeness in the world to come, merit to leave the grave from the oath of the soul that it swore to Metat-n, as mentioned above. For Metat–n goes to know who is his exact body, as the soul swore to him. And what is he? He is as it is written: “הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי נִצָּב עַל עֵין הַמָּיִם”, “Behold, I stand by the spring of water” (Genesis 24:43 ). Even though it is the body of a Torah scholar, Metat–n goes to examine its completeness, as it is written: “וְהָיְתָה הָעַלְמָה הַיֹּצֵאת לִשְׁאֹב וְאָמַרְתִּי אֵלֶיהָ הַשְׁקִינִי נָא מְעַט מַיִם מִכַּדֵּךְ”, “And the maiden who comes out to draw, and I will say to her, ‘Please give me a little water from your jug'” (Genesis 24:43 ). Which means: Tell me a hint of the knowledge of the Name from what you have attained.
Notes:
Torah scholars, knowing their Master in this world, merit resurrection, with Metat–n examining their body’s completeness. The “maiden” drawing water symbolizes the soul’s Torah knowledge (הַשְׁקִינִי).
