For this reason, Jacob went with deception and cunning, and brought blessings upon Jacob, who is like Adam the first, and they were taken from the serpent, which is the lip of falsehood. For he spoke much falsehood and did many false deeds to entice to the eating of the Tree of Knowledge and to bring curses upon the world. For this reason, Jacob came with deception and misled his father into blessing the world and taking from the serpent what he withheld from it, that is, the blessings he withheld from the world. And it was measure for measure. And about this, it is written: “וַיֹּאהַב קְלָלָה וַתְּבֹאֵהוּ וְלֹא חָפֵץ בִּבְרָכָה וַתִּרְחַק מִמֶּנּוּ”, “And he loved a curse, and it came to him; and he did not desire a blessing, and it was far from him” (Psalms 109:17 ). About him it is written: “אָרוּר אַתָּה מִכֹּל הַבְּהֵמָה”, “Cursed are you from all the cattle” (Genesis 3:14 ). And he remained in curse for generations. And Jacob came and took the blessings from him.

Notes:

Jacob’s deception to secure Isaac’s blessings mirrors the Snake’s falsehood at the Tree of Knowledge, but measure for measure, Jacob restores blessings withheld from the world. The Snake’s curse endures, while Jacob’s merit rectifies Adam’s fall, bringing divine favor.

And from the days of Adam, Jacob was destined to take from that serpent all those blessings. And the serpent was cursed so that it would never leave him forever. And David said with the Holy Spirit: “מָה יִּתֵּן לְךָ וּמָה יֹּסִיף לְךָ לְשׁוֹן רְמִיָּה”, “What shall be given to you, and what shall be added to you, O deceitful tongue?” (Psalms 120:3). What forced that evil serpent, who brought curses upon the world? It is like what they said: The serpent bites and kills and has no pleasure from it.

Notes:

Jacob took blessings from the serpent (מָה יִּתֵּן לְךָ), leaving it cursed, its deceit bringing no gain, like a snake biting for no benefit, as David condemned.
