Description

This week Ang is joined by Karen Shaw, a transformational life, parenting and relationship coach, alignment therapist NLP practitioner as well as being the author of the number one best selling book, ‘Parenting Magic’. Karen is the mother of three boys, all of which have various disabilities. Struggling to understand how she could help them better and consumed by negative thoughts following her divorce, Karen set out to change herself and change the life of her boys. In this interview with Ang, Karen outlines her incredible journey of self learning and how she developed and learned the tools needed to give herself and her children the best life they could have.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Karen has three sons, all of which have various disabilities. Once she realised that they were not thriving in the way they should be, she set out to find ways in which she herself could help them, as she explains to Ang.
  • When Karen went through her divorce she was overcome with negative emotions toward her husband. She discusses with Ang how she came to the realisation that this was destructive behaviour and the tools and methods she adopted to help her overcome it.
  • Once Karen had implemented the various methods of self help she learned at home, she was struck by how noticeable the effects of them were to visiting friends and family members. Realising that she could help others, she decided to write a book. She explains the process to Ang.
  • Karen explains the concept of ‘Ditch the Don’t’ to Ang. And how making simple changes in the way we communicate to each other can have immense positive repercussions.

BEST MOMENTS

“Once you’ve got the title of ‘parent’ you’ve got it for life.”

“Trying to suppress your emotions is like trying to keep a beach ball underwater. It’s eventually going to burst back up with force.”

“Our thoughts become beliefs which then become behaviours. That’s why it’s so important to take control of our thoughts before they take control of our behaviours.”

ABOUT THE PODCAST

Do I Really Hate Men?

Interesting question and one I have asked myself many times. This is not an ‘I hate men’ podcast neither is it just an account of my divorce and the many awful events leading up to and during it. This podcast is a safe space to delve into what happens when relationships end, it provides guidance on how to carry on being a functioning adult and/or Single Mum when you feel broken inside.

This podcast provides hope sprinkled with humour, at times its emotional at times inspiring and at times sad. I have a message to share with women around the world, come join me and your global sisters for a weekly dose of Superhero Mum inspiration and stories.

My mission -to help women and mothers globally to recover from relationship pain,  lead meaningful happy lives and inspire their children to succeed.

NOTE – I need you to know that I don’t hate men! It’s important that you know there are many great men out there. Many fantastic fathers and single fathers trying hard to do a great job. I know little about the struggles of single fathers; however, I presume they are numerous common issues we share with these amazing men who strive to do the right thing by their children.
