LVUSD Needs More Mental Health Counselors
Description
Did you know that suicide is the leading cause of death in teenagers, and research shows that these rates are only increasing?
Why does the Las Virgenes Unified School District, a "PUBLIC" school district, go out of its way to hire former NFL players to coach the football teams, so they can attract the best football players from around the county, all so they can win; but they do not go out of their way to ensure that we have more than enough mental health counselors, on-site but available before, during, and after school? Why do sports come before mental health at LVUSD?
What in the world are the Superintendent & the Governing School Board Members doing? Asking for a community that desperately wants the best for "our" children!
Maybe if Dan Stepenosky didn’t hire (5) Deans for about an extra million dollars per year, the district could afford to have a team of crisis counselors for the suffering students.
It took the Round Meadow Elementary mental health counselor ten days to get back to a grandparent with concerns over her granddaughter's mental health. The student transferred to a new district, and then the counselor returned the family’s call. Too little, too late! Shame on Las Virgenes Unified School District and their inadequate mental health staff.
