Parents' Rights A brief summary of Procedural Safeguards for students with disabilities receiving special education services.
Update: 2022-09-29
Description
Several LVUSD parents have reached out to me regarding their children's problems with learning or behavior in the Las Virgenes Unified School District. Many of these parents have reached out to counselors and are not finding the necessary answers. All parents must be aware of their educational rights under the California Department of Education's Individuals with Disabilities Act because they are procedural safeguards.
Please note the District will fight you on these services, and it is your job to fight back to ensure your child receives the benefits they are entitled to. If your efforts are not productive, I highly recommend you reach out to a special education advocate or an attorney. In my personal experience, the advocate was very effective and far cheaper than an attorney. Still, I strongly suggest you utilize the resources that will be most effective for your unique situation.
