#25 Fukushima Village × 50 Artists = ? (Guest: Kengo Sakamoto, PR of Katsurao Collective, Part 1)
We talk with Kengo Sakamoto, PR at the artists-in-residence program “Katsurao Collective” in Katsurao Village, Fukushima. He moved in spring 2022 (year 4). Starting from university research, his curiosity about Fukushima deepened and led him to connect on the ground. In a village that experienced a five-year whole-village evacuation, with many areas lifted in 2016, we discuss AIR as a migration/settlement policy, operations by a general incorporated association, around 50 resident artists so far, workshops that make use of local resources such as dyeing with Shimimochi broth and rice-straw crafts, and the relationships that even cause “artist loss.”
