Speaker 1:      Welcome to the Get Up and CODE Podcast with your host John Sonmez. The only podcast that combines fitness and programming and does it in less time than it takes to finish your workout.
John:               Hey welcome back to Get Up and CODE. I’m your host John Sonmez and this is actually a very special episode because this episode 100 of the Get Up and CODE Podcast. I can’t believe it’s already been 100 episodes. Seems like just not too long ago when I was starting this podcast and now there’s 100 episodes out. That just amazes me.
I was trying to think about what to do for this hundredth special episode and I wanted to do something spectacular but I am travelling right now and it’s hard to plan this out so much so I couldn’t get any kind of spectacular guest lined up and I had some other plans but those fell through as well. What I decided to do for this episode is to basically talk about the things that I’ve learned while doing this podcast, the Get Up and CODE Podcast. Over time my views have changed, I’ve learned a lot of things from doing this podcast from just my fitness journey and I wanted to share with you some of the things that I’ve been in, some of the episodes and just some of the things that I found were the most valuable lessons that I’ve learned over the past couple of years here doing Get Up and CODE.
Before I do that though I do want to take a second to thank the sponsor for this podcast which is Zephyr. If you are interested in testing, test management you definitely want to check Zephyr out. In fact, they just launched a new mobile app and it’s really, really pretty cool. Zephyr has always been a big supporter of everything that I’ve been doing with Simple Programmer and now with Get UP and CODE so you can check out Zephyr, this mobile app and their enterprise edition, the Zephyr Enterprise Edition 4.7 actually basically is free or rather the Community Edition is free and then you can check out the Enterprise Edition, but really, really good set of applications for doing test management and the pricing is really reasonable. Like I said, the community edition is free for starting out. You can try it out, you can get going with a small team and then as you grow you can grow into their enterprise edition. I definitely would recommend you check it out at getzephyr.com. That’s getzephyr.com and thanks again Zephyr for supporting Get Up and CODE and helping programmers and software developers and get testers get fit.
Okay, so let’s go ahead and talk about some of these topics, what I’ve learned over the hundred episodes of Get Up and CODE and I’m going to start off with the first thing that was really a shocker for me and really changed—it’s probably the most dramatic thing that I’ve learned in doing this podcast just over my fitness journey which is that meal frequency doesn’t really matter that much. For the longest time lifting weights and doing bodybuilding I was very much a follower of this 6 meals a day, eating small frequent meals, getting enough protein in each meal because you can only digest so much protein at a time and that would increase your metabolism and that’s the best way to go until we really talked about intermittent fasting on the podcast and I looked into it and checked it out and found out that it seemed legitimate. Tried it myself and realized that I was not seeing a difference in result. In fact, I was seeing better results with intermittent fasting than I was with eating 6 meals a day.
That was huge. That really ended up saving me a lot of time and made it a lot more manageable my fitness schedule,
