Speaker 1:      Welcome to the Get Up and CODE Podcast with your host John Sonmez. The only podcast that combines fitness and programming and does it in less time than it takes to finish your workout.
John:               Hey welcome back to another episode of Get Up and CODE. I thought I’d do a quick episode this week. I’m still in Amsterdam here and I’ve actually gotten to the gym so I’m actually lifting again here which is good, feeling good about that. Still need to get back into the running, haven’t run in a while here, but hey, everyday that you are able to make forward progress is a good day. A lot of times it’s more about damage control than it is about moving forward. I’ve definitely learned that on this trip and I’ve definitely been trying to remember that. It’s one of the hardest things for sure is to remember that sometimes damage control is the best, it’s the most effective thing in a lot of areas of your life. If you can be good at that that’s often times more important than excelling which happens less frequently. All the time we have the opportunity to mess up big and those big mess ups are what ends up really hurting you.
Anyway, so I thought for this episode what I would talk about real quickly is what will make you look good, the best bang for your buck. I don’t know about you, but I think a lot of people that get into lifting weights and fitness and stuff do it for aesthetics. Now, not all of us will admit it, but I definitely do. I lift weights and run and eat healthy because I want to be healthy but mostly because I want to look good. It makes me feel better. It’s a confidence booster and I just want to look good.
Anyway, I thought I would give you the kind of things that you can do that are going to give you the most bang for your buck whether you’re male or female. I’ll kind of divide that up a little bit here but—so let’s talk about guys first since I know the most about that.
For guys the best thing that you can probably do is going to be to build up your chest. That’s probably going to be the most noticeable thing. I think most guys in the gym lift and realize that that’s going to make the biggest difference. Definitely this would be I would say number one exercise, like bang for your buck is going to be the inclined bench press because that is going to produce the best results. Usually the upper pec is more difficult part to target and that’s usually the more undeveloped part of the pectoralis. There’s debate whether or not you can target specifically different parts of the pec but you can definitely the upper pec. Doing the inclined bench press or inclined bench press with dumbbells would be one of the best exercises.
The next biggest bang for your buck I would say for guys at least is getting a back. I didn’t realize how much having a big thick like wide back, like getting a V taper will make a difference. There the best thing is going to be doing a lot of pull-ups. If you’ve got a pull-up bar and you can do weighted pull-ups that’s going to be the best bang for your buck there, so working on back, developing a big back. If you get a big chest and a big back you’re going to look pretty dang good, right? Those are probably going to be the primary things.
Now, you can’t neglect your legs entirely but those aren’t going to be as aesthetic as everything else. If you have really skinny legs you can even hide them wearing pants but I’d recommend at least doing some kind of leg workout to have that balance. Those are the 2 biggest things. if I had to throw a third on there I’d say to work on your delts, your shoulders the outer head,
