Headsets come in all sizes and shapes, and one popular style happens to be earbuds. And in that category, Apple Airpods are highly popular. I know, I own a pair. But, when it comes to using Airpods on business calls, is that a good idea, or is that something that would qualify you for some serious psychological counseling?
In this episode, I'll give you my thoughts on whether I think you should, or shouldn't use Airpods for your business calls.
For starters, there are a number of things that go into a professional, great sounding headset. But for the sake of this podcast, I'll keep this narrowly focused on the microphone, and even more specifically, the microphone's ability to eliminate unwanted background noise. So with that said, let's find out if the new Apple Airpods Pro 2 are up to the challenge.
Not long ago I wrote a blog about the Apple Airpods 3, and whether those earbuds were a good idea for use on business calls. And if you happen to have read, or listened to it, you'll know that I wasn't giving them an enthusiastic endorsement for that kind of use. I'm pretty sure I used the word "sucks" in that blog more than I've ever used it. This is due to the degree to which it failed our sound tests. Weput the Airpods 3 up against the sounds of office noise, dogs barking, and a baby crying. All of these noises could be clearly heard, which says to me that the Airpods 3 essentially has zero noise reducing qualities.
Fast forward, and now the new Airpods Pro 2 have arrived. Needless to say, I was highly interested to see if Apple stepped up and fixed this issue in this new model. Sadly, I have to report that the Airpods Pro 2 performed pretty much the same as its predecessor, i.e., a major noise canceling flop. But I don't want you to take my word for it. Instead, I'd invite you to watch our Youtube Short here and you can decide for yourself if that's the sound you're looking for. If it is, God bless you. But for me, I can't get far enough away of that kind of noise reduction if I'm on a business call.
Two headsets that you might consider for your business calls instead of these underperforming Airpods Pro 2's are:
Both of these headsets have amazing sound quality, which means you'll sound great to your callers. And both remove nearly all the noise in the background. I know, because we tested both of them. These are professional, business grade headsets that are great for your most important business calls.
